Businesses can now create pages on Google+

Google+ has opened up its pages feature to businesses, attracting big names like
the Muppets, O2, Save the Children and Burberry to the network.
However,
before any businesses decide to set up a page, they should ensure their IT management systems
are fully up to scratch - to ensure any potential security attacks are simply
pushed back.
Although BBC News revealed Google+ has promised it will
not pass on any IP information elsewhere, companies cannot be too careful when
it comes to protecting their networks.
Up until this time, only individual
people could create a page on the network. Businesses will now be able to do the
same; allowing them another channel upon which to market their products or
services. It's a free service and may aid businesses in engaging effectively
with their target audience.
ComputerWeekly.com also cited it as a
"further challenge" to Facebook, which already lets businesses set up pages on its
network.
It may be a while until the latest Google+ service will act as a
true rival to Facebook's business functions though, as internet expert Ian Maude
revealed that Facebook is still way ahead in terms of users numbers.
"Facebook still has more than 10 times the number of users," he confirmed on
BBC News. "Google+ is growing very quickly. However, there is an awful
long way for it to go before it becomes a major threat to Mark Zuckerburg's
business."
