Companies worried about the risks of cloud computing shouldn't be, according to one expert from the National Computing Centre.

Speaking to Qas.co.uk, Michael Dean made the comments - arguing that whilst there were certain risks associated with the technology, they were easily handled and shouldn't put people off.

The industry insider claimed that if the risks involved were "thought through" and effectively prepared for, there wouldn't be an issue for companies.

Dean cited some of the worries companies could have about integrating their infrastructure and IT management systems with the cloud. These included: "What if I need to terminate a service or change providers?"

"How easy will it be to get hold of my data? What if my cloud services provider ceases to operate? Will the contract lock me in? What about flexibility?"

However these were all issues that could be tackled easily, he added on AshdownGroup.com.

His advice came after statistics were released that confirmed 48 per cent of European companies had already investigated implementing cloud computing.

Furthermore, they suggested that 31 per cent of the same companies anticipated upgrading to the cloud computing model within the next year. Over half of these companies said their main incentive for doing so was to keep their business agile.
