The UK's largest games publisher, Codemasters, has become the latest target for computer network hackers.

The Daily Telegraph reports that tens of thousands of online gamers have been warned to change their passwords following reports of attacks similar to those on Sony and Nintendo in recent weeks.

The publisher admitted that the personal details of users had been compromised during an attack on its system on June 3, although it confirms that no financial information was stolen.

They have been forced to close down both the US and UK versions of the website and redirect users to their Facebook page whilst they recover from the attacks.

The constant news of attacks on major gaming companies highlights the importance of businesses investing in network management software in order to protect the details of their customers.

Speaking to SC Magazine, anti-virus software specialist Gerhard Eschelbeck attempted to explain the vast amount of effort it often takes to recover from such a huge breach in security.

He said: "The recent increase in high-profile hacking attacks have highlighted the common vulnerabilities of today's online and internet infrastructure. After such a significant compromise, a complete rebuild of a company's online infrastructure is required.

"The impact to the targeted organisations is substantial considering the cost of downtime and lost online revenue, loss of image and even fines and lawsuits."
