Search engine giant Google has joined forces with Citizens Advice to launch a basic help guide regarding online security and privacy issues, reports Fresh Business Thinking.

The website - called' Good To Know' - will allow novice computer users to research basic security techniques like setting a password, learning about cookies and other settings.

By learning about basic security measures, business owners could be convinced to make the step up from basic measures like passwords to systems management software, which can provide complete protection on a network.

The website is aimed at users of computers at all levels and will be will be publicised side-by-side with a series of adverts.

Ofcom's consumer communications panel unveiled some alarming figures regarding user security, with 26 per cent of UK internet users worried about the safety of their personal details. In addition, 14 per cent were worried about privacy and 13 per cent about fraud, so the new website should go some way to allay fears about personal security.

Gillian Guy, chief executive of Citizens Advice, commented on the new site on Computer Business Review: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Google. Citizens Advice is all about straightforward, simple advice on the issues that matter, so helping people take control of their safety and privacy online is right up our street."
