The government has pledged to save £1.4 billion over the next four years via its new ICT strategy.
A newly released Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) has detailed exactly how the government will use IT management systems to achieve such dramatic savings.
Although basic details of the government's ICT strategy had been released in March, particulars such as dates and budgets had yet to be finalised until the release of the 72-page guide.
A government statement cited by cloudpro.co.uk read: "Today's SIP includes specific delivery dates for each aspect of the strategy and an overview of how the strategy will be implemented with further details for each of the 19 delivery areas.
"It will be followed in the coming weeks by four sub-strategies which will detail the commitment being made on key elements of the ICT strategy, including cloud computing and ICT capability."
It also pointed out that, although the strategy's implementation is not mandatory outside central government, it would continue to work with the public sector in order to identify further opportunities for savings.
It is thought that cloud computing will play a major role in the government's ICT strategy over the next four years. The Guardian has reported predictions that it will account for around half of government spend on ICT.
