Global IT budgets are set to rise by an extra £1.7 trillion next year, claims an industry analyst.
Research from Gartner has indicated that budgets will rise by an average of 3.9 per cent across the globe, with firms especially keen to invest in cloud services and remote systems management.
Peter Sonnegard, who is global head of research at Gartner, claimed that mobile infrastructure is one of the key investment priorities for firms in all industries. In an speech cited by computing.co.uk, he also cited social technologies, information analytics and the cloud as services set to become popular next year.
He said: "This year, 350 companies will each invest more than $1 billion in IT. They are doing this because IT impacts their business performance."
Computerweekly.com report that a lot of firms might take longer to construct the annual IT budget this year, even though the majority of them are likely to have started planning already.
It is thought that the current economic woes of many countries and fears of becoming victims of the recession will make IT budgets more difficult to finalise.
Another apparent issue is that many firms are reportedly unable to invest in services such as remote system management because the majority of their budget is consumed by IT maintenance fees.
