IT budgets being wasted on poor software

Users are feeling the frustration of slow, complicated IT software as businesses continue to waste IT budgets on poor systems, reports Fresh Business Thinking.
Frustrated information workers will even turn to other avenues in order to avoid using difficult IT software when performing a task.
The FileMaker International survey suggests 67 per cent of information workers believe their database systems do not fully meet their expectations; while 58 per cent said if an IT system is running slow, they will find another way of completing a task.
Highly efficient information technology, like network management solutions, could encourage more information workers to use the software rather than turn their backs.
In addition, 25 per cent believe databases in their organisations are underused due to the complex nature of the software and 32 per cent agree that data in their organisation is "probably unreliable because the systems they use are not integrated".
Tony Speakman, director of FileMaker's Northern region, told turk.internet.com that budgets could be used more efficiently: "There is a worryingly large percentage of companies out there wasting IT budgets on software that is not the right solution for their users.
"Budgets are still being influenced by decisions makers in IT departments, rather than the users themselves, which is having a negative impact upon productivity.
"Our research shows that information workers are becoming 'IT Gurus' and businesses need to understand that it's not just IT departments that understand IT," he added.
