An incredible one in three businesses close due to human error as staff remain "unaware of even basic IT security," reports Fresh Business Thinking.

A new survey suggests that 64 per cent of UK workers have received absolutely no training on IT security issues, encompassing loss of sensitive data to protecting against malware - a bug that can have devastating effects on a computer.

IT specialist Graeme Batsman believes that "enhancing workers' knowledge of IT security" would be beneficial to both the individual and the business in the fight against intrusive hackers and computer-wrecking viruses.

In addition, businesses can protect themselves by installing network management software with antivirus and other security measures, which can provide protection on networks as well as block potentially harmful programs.

"A large proportion of UK workers do not see data security as an issue," claims Batsman, "while others view it as a problem for the IT department and technical staff; it is vital that we protect our digital lives.

"By understanding the best practices of IT, many UK workers can not only ensure they protect their company's data but they will also be able to protect their own data using simple security procedures on laptops and even mobile devices," he added to allaboutrisk.com.
