Infamous hacking collective LulzSec has claimed another victim in its crusade to penetrate the security of websites - the CIA.
Computer World reports the group, which previously claimed responsibility for hacking into Sony Pictures, US Senate servers and gamemaker Bethesda Software, used microblogging network Twitter to tweet: "Tango down - cia.gov - for the lulz."
It is not yet known if the attack resulted in any information being compromised but, for now, the website seems to be back to normal.
CIA spokesman Preston Golson released a very brief statement, saying: "We are looking into the reports."
The continuing presence of LulzSec, Anonymous and other hacktivist groups should alert companies to the importance of high-quality anti-virus, anti-malware and other programs embedded within systems management software.
CNN notes that, while LulzSec have been hitting corporate interests through illegal hacking, the attacks could "highlight the vulnerability of our data...using gaming as a headline-grabbing way to get the masses thinking - and protesting - about security issues."
The group have "promised not to actually release the data dug up in their various hacks" but instead just highlight the importance of strong digital security as other hackers may not be so forgiving.
Despite their good intentions within the realms of security, LulzSec have now set up a hotline that people can call to request potential hacking targets.
