The volume of malware operating on the internet could drop by as much as 60 per cent, if professionals working in IT security work together.
That's according to the chief executive of a security software firm, Eugene Kaspersky, who told Bezpeka.com that collaboration would help eliminate the "bulk" of all malware.
He argued that if companies identified any potential malware and instantly blocked it, the amount of infections initially able to penetrate networks would reduce so much that cyber criminals would be put off.
The expert confirmed: "The number of initial infections will be so low that it will cost cyber criminals more to develop the malware than they are able to recoup."
"Even though relatively few security suppliers are using this approach, from monitoring the underground forums, we know cyber criminals are feeling the effects."
It is thought that if more companies embrace the cloud, and work together to spread the message that quicker is better, then 90 per cent of all malware could be eradicated. This process could be run alongside a company's automated IT software, creating efficient and effectual procedures for reducing security risks.
Computer World also confirmed the further benefits taking this approach would have, such as firms having more time to dedicate to the larger, more dangerous malware attacks - therefore protecting their business and its intellectual property.
