New anti virus hardware to offer superior protection

A computer security expert has claimed that up-and-coming anti-virus hardware technology will offer superior protection to IT management systems.
President of IT security firm Cryptography Research Paul Kocker said that hardware-based security would be more secure and flexible than the current range of software on the market
In an interview with computing.co.uk, he claimed that new anti-virus hardware technology would be better prepared to protect against persistent attacks from threats.
He said: "Security software is best at addressing threats such as viruses that propagate widely and are therefore known to the security software developer.''
"Security software can also help limit the amount of functionality that a malicious adversary can directly access, but is much less effective against targeted, customised attacks.''
Kocher went on to explain even perfectly-written bug free anti-virus software would not be able to make for vulnerabilities in third party programs such as ISP's or e-mail applications.
However, virus protecting-hardware would be much better equipped to protect against these possibilities, he claimed.
CBR Online recently revealed that Intel are in the process of developing anti-virus hardware that will protect against even the most virulent attacks.
Staff from Intel say that they expect the technology to be released within the next calendar year.
