Computer games giant Nintendo have fallen foul of hackers in the latest attack by Lulz Security.
Just last week the hacking outfit stole and published details of users from Sonypictures.com in addition to disrupting a multitude of other entertainment websites over the last month.
In this case, servers belonging to a Nintendo affiliate server in the United States were compromised. However, Nintendo have confirmed that no consumer data or company information was lost, according to a BBC News report.
Company spokesman Ken Toyoda said: "There were no third-party victims, but it is a fact there was some kind of possible hacking attack."
By way of warning the creators of 'Mario', Lulz Security joked about their exploits in a twitter post. According to IT Pro Portal, a tweet referring to the incident read: "We're not targeting Nintendo. We like the N64 too much - sincerely hope Nintendo plugs the gap."
Lulz Security's ongoing campaign against large firms is clearly putting out a warning to those with insecure networks and vulnerable servers. This should remind many that it is vital to invest in a strong network management system to evaluate any potential 'back doors' for hackers.
Tomokazu Nakaura of Nintendo Japan added in a statement that the protection of Nintendo users' customer information is the company's "utmost priority."
