Games giant Nintendo has ramped up its internet security, following the risk of possible intrusions.
Following in the wake of attacks on Sony that saw its server go down for days, Nintendo has increased its security in the UK in the wake of a "possible phishing threat."
The news comes after internet security has been thrust into the limelight in recent weeks, with high profile attacks illustrating that all businesses - regardless of how big or small - are potential targets. It seems that having substantial network management software is the only way of ensuring a companies IT infrastructure is properly protected.
Now, despite Nintendo's main site still being active and not crashing out, the company has announced that it has put additional security methods in place. It has also advised Club Nintendo users to change their passwords. Other smaller aspects of the network have been shut down for the last week, as a preventative measure.
In a press release printed on nintendo.co.uk, a spokesperson explained: "We would like to reassure customers that their protection is our utmost priority and we take security very seriously. We maintain constant monitoring of our systems in order to identify intrusion attempts and block them."
Previously, Nintendo has assured customers that is does not keep their bank account details, telling eurogamer.net: "This data is not at risk."
