Former leader of the Labour Party in Swindon Councillor Derique Montaut has been contacted by News International (NI) to say that his personal details may end up on the internet following a recent security breach.

IT system management experts at the newspaper group caught wind of the issue in July 2011 and it seems the organisation is now worried that the hacking group LulzSec may publish personal details held at the company.

According to the Swindon Advertiser, Councillor Montaut received a letter on Saturday (August 13th) from head of customer management at NI Chris Duncan, who urged the politician to take extra precautions when dealing with unknown third parties in future.

"We're contacting you because we believe the details you submitted to us have been accessed and may be published online by the group responsible, though at the time of writing we were not aware of any information that has been published," the letter read.

Councillor Montaut explained that he has been a loyal reader of The Times for many years and is now very concerned about his personal information being shared.

The security breach occurred as hackers were able to infiltrate The Sun website and acquire details of people who had entered competitions and other activities.

Computer Weekly noted that the information taken is believed to have included names, addresses, dates of birth and telephone numbers.
