The United States has been named as the country hosting the most malware on the Internet.
Research by
a leading IT security company indicated that 28 per cent of web malware is spread using U.S websites whilst
almost 15 per cent was based on Russian domains.
It was estimated that 87 per cent of internet malware
was based in just ten countries.
Other countries with high website infection levels include Oman,
Iraq, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Belarus. Anyone visiting websites from these nations
would be advised to invest in IT systems management
software in order to protect themselves against such threats.
Websites based in Japan were
found to be the safest followed by Germany, Denmark and Luxembourg. Over a third of web users in the UK
were subject to web attacks during the last quarter.
Speaking to cbronline.com,
computer security expert Yury Namestnikov explained that computer hackers feel they will be most successful
targeting countries with a high proportion of web access but low levels of computer literacy.
The
research also focused on the software most vulnerable to attacks from computer viruses and found that the list
of top 10 most vulnerable programs contained just two developers, Adobe and Oracle.
Mybroadband.co.za report that seven of the ten vulnerabilities were within Adobe Flash Player.
